Patch Notes/6.08
Hi everyone! The latest Valorant update is here, and with a new Act comes a fresh set of tweaks and changes that will reshape how we play. Patch 6.08 brings back a fan-favorite map, gives two agents some much-needed quality-of-life improvements, and even includes a small visual touch-up for a classic sidearm. Let’s dive into everything you need to know to stay ahead in your next unrated or competitive match.
Map Rotation Shake-Up: Bind Returns, Icebox Takes a Break
The biggest change impacting your queue is to the map pool. Starting with this patch, Bind has made its grand return to both Unrated and Competitive modes. Get ready to navigate those tight hallways, call out teleports, and plan your execute around Hookah and Showers once again.
In exchange for Bind’s return, Icebox has been rotated out of the active pool for now. If you were just getting your B-site Icebox retakes down, you’ll have to put that practice on hold. This rotation keeps the competitive map pool feeling fresh and ensures players stay adaptable to different strategic environments.
Agent Updates: Clarity for Gekko and Killjoy
The core of this patch focuses on improving game clarity and audio feedback for two agents: Gekko and Killjoy. The developers want to ensure that players have the information they need to make split-second decisions during chaotic rounds.
Gekko: Clearer Audio and Visuals
Gekko, everyone’s favorite viral sprout, receives some subtle but important improvements.
- Wingman (Q) Audio: The sound cues for when Wingman is planting or defusing the Spike were sometimes getting lost in the heat of combat. The audio has been improved to make these crucial actions more distinct. Now, you should hear that defuse sound much more clearly over gunfire and abilities.
- Portrait Update: Gekko’s in-game portrait has been updated. This is primarily for better gameplay readability and to bring it in line with the visual quality of other agent portraits.
Killjoy: Nanoswarm & Lockdown Adjustments
Killjoy continues to be a meta staple, and this patch brings a series of tweaks to make her kit more intuitive to play against. The changes aim to improve audio-visual feedback so enemies better understand what’s happening with her utility.
Nanoswarm (C) Changes
The grenade that hides in the ground gets several updates:
- Reveal Radius Increase: The radius at which Nanoswarm is revealed to enemies has been significantly increased from 350 to 525. This means you’ll see the grenade on your screen from further away, giving you a better chance to track it down if you’re playing carefully.
- Audio Improvements: The looping sound of Nanoswarm has been updated. Furthermore, the audio will now correctly turn off if the Nanoswarm is disabled because Killjoy was killed or suppressed.
- Better Feedback: When an enemy destroys your Nanoswarm, the feedback—likely the visual and audio cues—has been improved. For enemies, Nanoswarm will also be properly revealed on the minimap/UI when it is disabled.
Lockdown (X) Changes
Killjoy’s powerful area-denial ultimate also gets a couple of tweaks for clarity:
- The visual effect for when Lockdown is destroyed has been updated.
- The yellow warning UI indicator that appeared for enemies while Lockdown was winding up has been removed. The developers felt it was too visually noisy and cluttered the screen for the entire duration of the ultimate’s charge-up.
Shorty Cosmetic Update
Lastly, a small but note-worthy cosmetic adjustment. The Shorty shotgun has received an update for certain skinlines, including the default skin. This likely means tweaks to the model, animations, or effects to improve its visual consistency.
Summary & Key Takeaways
To make sure you’re all set for your next session, here’s a quick breakdown of what matters most in Patch 6.08:
- Play the Maps: Bind is back in the competitive pool, and Icebox is out. Adjust your strategies accordingly.
- Gekko’s Clarity: The audio for Wingman’s plant/defuse is clearer, making it harder to miss his Spike actions in a fight.
- Killjoy’s Feedback: Enemies now have better tools to track and understand her utility:
- Nanoswarm (C): Is revealed from 350 >> 525 units away, and has updated audio/feedback.
